I
will take diamond over gold.
Both
are dense, treasured, pure.
But
diamonds are carbon, compressed,
like
poetry, condensed and distilled.
Black
sooty coal
made
transparent,
its
sheer faceted faces
expressing
the essence of light.
Which
I imagine
endlessly
refracting
and
then reflecting back,
pure
light
contained
within the precious stone,
even
when it's locked away
in
its pitch black vault.
