Fight, Flight, or Freeze

In all this talk of fear
— change, the climate, the other —
what about ourselves?
The fear of what might get out
should we unleash
our inner demons.
As if we need only consider ourselves,
impervious to shame
and scoffing at consequence.
And then those
who fear its opposite.
Not the real world
nor fear itself
but love.
Who will not surrender
keep their guard up.
Fear, the emotion that rules
over all the others.
Ahhh, to be free of it.
To love
trust
let go,
a part instead of apart.
And do so fearlessly,
with a clear head
and whole heart.
