Weather Report

They're predicting a drier warmer May.
It's said beware what you wish for,
but after a miserable winter
I’ll risk dry and warm;
my old bones
have shivered plenty enough!
How weather so affects us.
Grist for small talk, if nothing else.
And, because we're easily bored
change
just for the sake of it;
even if for the worse.
But mostly
strength through adversity,
challenges
to overcome.
How tiresome
it must be in San Diego,
where the weather never changes
and no one cares
about the weather report.
While here
it's successive seasons
of blizzard, mud, bugs,
followed by too much heat
for us pale notherners,
and then the sweet interregnum of fall
like a reward
for all that suffering.
May 1,
and looking through the window
it's blowing snow and overcast,
too cold to melt.
But the weather report
has warmed my soul;
always something
to look forward to
if nothing else.
