Static Charge
June 2 2012

On the edge,
where things intersect
brush-up against
collide.

A fitful wind
distant thunder,
a line of heavy cloud.
Here, in sunshine.

The world feels pent up
tightly wound,
like static charge
high-voltage wire.
Here, at the margin of light
where we are all
outliers.

Sky turns dark
thunder furious.
But it does not pour,
and at the speed of sound
the storm hits
one county over.

I crave release
from unbearable tension.
But am left
on the edge
balancing …balancing …,
no end in sight.
