The Precious of Tongue
March 12 2022
The words come too easily
to me.
And how meaningful
can just more talk
really be?
I think of taciturn people
who wear their mystery
like flowing robes
that rustle quietly as they walk,
enveloped
in soft material
that catches the light.
Simply mirroring
what we project on them.
And the doers and the shakers
who don't have time
to question or discuss,
too focused
on getting things done.
Then those who are careful with their words,
frugal
measured
precious of tongue.
The poets and parsimonious
who cut all the fat from their prose
but still can't resist
lists consisting of 3,
and here and there
a self-indulgent tangent
cheap analogy
elaborate metaphor.
Yet how delightful
their empty words
and turns of phrase.
That change nothing
but pass the time
pleasantly enough,
engaging idle minds
in fluff and nonsense.
